Let’s Chat Over Coffee….Wine….Tea…..

Let’s chat over a beverage of your choice, shall we? For me I think wine would be a good choice today. I have a bunch of random things running through my head lately that maybe getting them out may help me organize my thoughts. So here we go…

This has been quite the year so far for our family. I, for one, feel as if summer is dragging it’s feet getting here and clearly, it’s affecting my motivation. For some reason I just cannot decide where to visit, what to do, or when to do it this coming summer. Typically I have my campsites arranged, dates chosen, and for the most part, plans made. This year however, I have NONE…..ZILCH!

Onto exercise, I have one word to explain this….FRUSTRATING! I am still so limited to what I can do, much less what I am allowed to do that it is driving me bonkers. I love walking and hiking but I feel as if it’s just not giving me the results I need. I feel so weak and that I have lost so much strength since surgery back in January that I want to start back weight lifting and doing ab work. However, my weight restriction is still limited and I am not allowed ab work for quite sometime yet. I don’t have a lot of patience when it comes to things like this, so to say it seems to be taking forever, is honestly putting it mildly.

Another item on my to do list in my own head is what to do for my husbands birthday which is right around the corner. I always struggle with this. I have an idea but to make this happen depends on one major element (Mother Nature) and that doesn’t always work so well so I feel pressured to at least have a backup plan.

Here is something that has amazed me recently. I did not talk about it much on here but for the past few years I have suffered from what my doctors have diagnosed as hypoglycemia. Well, much like many of the things I was dealing with on a daily basis, this too has seemed to disappear with my recent tumor removal. I thought at first it was because I was not exercising at all. Although, now I am exercising again and have shown no symptoms what so ever. This is a wonderful thing simply because now when I need to leave home, want to go to the gym or simply just want to go for a walk, I don’t have to look at the clock and try and remember when I last ate something and then calculate how long I have before I start having symptoms of low blood sugar. I can simply go back to eating when I am hungry instead of when I need to eat for blood sugar control. This is awesome!!!

That’s it for me today. Ahhh, I feel a bit better getting some of that off my chest. Now if I could just get it out of my thoughts, life would be even better.

A Look Back At August 2015 In Pictures

Wow, what a month it has been! I still find it hard to believe we pulled off such a great vacation considering the medical issues we have had in our family this summer. However, that is not all that happened in August for me…let’s have a look back.

Which now leads us all to September, when the leaves will start to fall, colors will start to appear in the tree tops, and my favorite season begins…..Autumn. As much as I dislike the cooler temperatures I do love the seasonal things like pumpkin, soups, and fall festivals. We have a pretty full calendar coming up and I look forward to sharing it all with you here soon.

Did you do something exciting in August?

Tell me about it.

Feast With The Beast 2015 Recap

Every year for about the past 5 years or so we have an annual date night. A local zoo closes down to the public and hosts Feast With The Beast where area restaurants set up tables and hand out samples from their menus.

IMG_1910

Upon arrival you receive a map of the zoo telling you where each restaurant is located and what their featured sample(s) are. I wish I could tell you we have a strategy but honestly, we don’t. There is so much food, wine, and beer that no matter where you begin and end you will leave completely full.

IMG_1886The trickiest part of the entire night is holding your plate, eating, and walking all at the same time. Many of the sample tables are set up very close together and the lines move very quickly. So typically, unless you find a spot to put down your plate and enjoy one sample, you find yourself in line for the next before the first is even gone.  IMG_1879

This year there were 47 tables/restaurants offering a sample….many offered two! Some are fancy, newer restaurants in the area

and some were well known restaurants serving just some signature dishes.

IMG_1890 IMG_1884 When you find yourself starting to fill up, don’t forget to walk around and enjoy the actual zoo experience while your there. Many of the animals were begging for a taste of what we all had in our hands. I even felt bad for a few, but not bad enough to share anything I had.  IMG_1899

You could also sit and listen to the live music and take a break and then go back to your favorites if you still have the room for a second helping.

IMG_1907For $35 a ticket you can enjoy two hours in a great outdoor setting, eating some fabulous food, try new drinks, all while listening to the very funny comments as guests leave with VERY FULL STOMACHS.  IMG_1896  IMG_1902

My husband swore he was going to have stretch marks on the drive home. HAHAHA. And I over heard another gentleman state that he felt like he was in his third trimester while rubbing his stomach. (If only he knew the truth about what that felt like) So be careful, an event like this could cause some very uncomfortable hours if you over indulge a little too much.

Have you ever gone to an event like this?

Did you like it?

July Goal #3- A Mom’s Day Off-Door County, WI

Although I don’t consider myself a full time mom anymore to our now grown 19 year old son, I am somewhat of a substitute mom to all my daycare children. That being said, whether I am a mom to my own child or doing my job, all mom’s needs a day off once in awhile. And that is exactly what I did on Monday, took a day off and had some fun with some friends.

I started my day with a little me time at the gym, alone and very early. My favorite time to workout is mornings and I rarely get this opportunity so I took full advantage of it.

IMG_3391

After that is was home to get ready for our day of fun in Door County, WI. I have visited this area more times than I can remember and almost always spend most of the time hiking trails or on the water doing something water related. Today however, was all about food, shopping, and wine tasting. No need for hiking boots or paddles but I was ok with that.

Our first stop was a new coffee shop in Sturgeon Bay, WI called the Glas Coffee House. I had already had my fill of morning coffee so I went with a blueberry smoothie which was perfect after my awesome morning workout.

After this it was time to go deep into the Door County experience and shop. All three of us are foodies so we were literally like kids in a candy store. We tasted dips, salsa, olive oils, balsamic vinegars, BBQ sauces, cookies, cherries, and of course WINE!!!!!

IMG_5041

We did sneak away and explore a few of the other shops with some authentic Door County art.

IMG_5034IMG_5033

Then somewhere along the path we came across a very special holiday shop that is decorated year round with Christmas decor.

IMG_5019

And I’ll be honest, walking into this shop in the middle of July was against all my morals but I did it. (You will all understand why if you remember how much I dread snow, cold, and winter.) I will also admit, the Christmas music that was playing sent a shiver down my spine but the decor was very, very beautiful.

IMG_5024

We did take a short break and have a real meal in between all the culinary delights we tasted and ate at the Chef’s Hat in Ephraim, WI.

IMG_2542

My meal of choice was the gorgonzola roast beef sandwich with potato salad. It’s like a party in your mouth, it’s so good.

IMG_5028

Door County has so much to offer that I know we could never see it all in one day. However, we saw quite a bit of it.

Eventually, I hope to get the girls to visit and venture out into my world a bit and either do some hiking or explore by water but until that happens a glance at the calm waters of Door County was not far from my sight.

IMG_5032

After all, it was a day to relax, enjoy being child free, enjoy being with friends and not have to worry about going back and picking up anyone in this area either:)

IMG_5035

To finish off our day, we had the pleasure of stopping in at the cabin of one of the women I spent the day with and sharing a dinner of all our Door County treats. WARNING: VERY UNHEALTHY MEAL….but so worth it!

IMG_5044

Yes, believe it or not, this was what we ate for dinner. Cookies, chocolate covered cherries, port wine cheese, crackers and wine. It was awesome.

Have you ever been to Door County, WI?

What was your favorite activity you did while there?
