Setting A New Goal

My husband and I made a new goal for ourselves. After completing the Ahnapee Trail back in Oct.2015 which is 48 miles one way( which means we did 96 miles total since we always needed to back track to our vehicle)….we thought it would be nice to do the same with the Mountain Bay Trail which is 83 miles one way. We began this journey Tuesday evening and plan to finish in sections over the next year or so hopefully. For me it’s always nice to have something to reach for, accomplish or push myself to achieve. This will be a good way for me to stay focused and healthy. So without wasting much more time typing while the sun is shining brightly in the sky….here is what this weeks workouts were like.

Sunday: 1.5 mile hike

Monday: gym: 45 minute elliptical, arms and shoulder weights and stretching

Tuesday: 2.5 mile trail hike on a new part of the Mountain Bay Trail

Wednesday: home: upper body weight routine and abs

Thursday: home: legs and abs weight routine

gym: 30 minute elliptical

Friday: rest

Saturday:4.5 mile hike further on the Mountain Bay Trail

Moods and Tantrums!!!!

An hour of extra daylight every day was the bright spot of my work week, there is no doubt about that. Wow, how can children be so thrown off by one hour I will never know but they clearly are? This week has been a roller coaster ride of moods and tantrums!!!!

Which made exercising as a stress reliever almost impossible since no one was completely on schedule. Which then means my poor husband and son had to put up with a cranky wife and mother most evenings. Poor guys.So without making more out of it then it really is, here is what I did squeeze in this week for my health and well being.

Sunday: rest

Monday: home: 30 minute recumbent bike, total body weights, and a two mile mall lap walk since we had to go anyhow for a wedding gift.

Tuesday: gym: 30 minute elliptical, leg weights, and stretching

Wednesday: rest

Thursday: home: 30 minute recumbent bike, full body weight workout, stretching and foam rolling

evening: 3 mile trail walk to watch the sunset

Friday: home: full body weights workout

Saturday: 1.5 mile evening walk….since we left home at 5a.m. for a day of fun I just could not find it in my heart to get up any earlier and go to the gym before we left.

 

I Thought 50 degrees in February Was Awesome…..64 Is A Small Miracle

Wow, what a week we had here in Green Bay. Sun was shining, snow was melting, warmth was beaming down from the sky, and I saw neighbors I have not seen since November. It’s always so funny to finally see who you live next too after a few months and high five each other for making it through another LONG winter.

Alright, so maybe winter is not quite over yet, but you could not tell by the week temperatures we had here. Needless to say, this all changed Friday morning upon waking up. We were once again, hit by yet another snowstorm. Which made me so happy that I took complete advantage of the nice days we did have and spent every moment possible outside for exercise.

Here, take a look:

Sunday: Fox River Trail walk 3 miles…The trail, river, and parking lots were packed with everyone wanting to get some fresh air. However, we found a quiet stretch to walk on which offered us some peace from all the bikers.

Monday: 2 mile walk and upper body weight routine

Tuesday: 3 mile walk and upper body weight routine

Plus numerous hours playing outside and going for two kid walks which equal approx 1.5 miles total….exhausting day but so nice to enjoy this mid February.

Wednesday: 1 mile walk…..In honor of National Margarita Day my dear neighbors brought over two margaritas for my husband and I. I then proceeded to drink mine before leaving for our evening walk, which then went from a planned 3 miles to a stumble instead of a walk and lasted 1 mile instead. However, I am not complaining since that margarita sure tasted great after a long, summer like day:-) It’s great to have such wonderful neighbors….

Saturday: I finally got the virus all my daycare children have been passing around for the past few weeks, so no exercise for me today:-(

As for meals this week, I will admit, I should have planned some grilling meals but I did not. My husband is the griller in our family and we had some nights where he was not due to be home on time so inside meals it was all week. Although, that’s ok, we still had some great meals and one new recipe this week which was a summer time quinoa salad because summer temps deserve a summer salad…right?

One night was pulled pork sandwiches with roasted carrots and sun dried tomato couscous.

Another evening was no boil lasagna because nothing is easier than making it all in the early morning and sliding it in the oven when you spent all day outside and need a hot dinner but have no energy left to prepare it at the end of the day.

Eating My Way Through A Stressful Week

We had some things going on this week that have led me back to my old go to of stress eating. Although, I am proud to say I still fit in exercise, however, I am not too proud to admit not nearly what I consumed in calories this week. Uggg, what do you do right? Sometimes you just have to face the facts and move forward and never look back.

Anyhow, here is what the week was like between my four walls (which are getting closer together as winter persists or so it seems).

Sunday: rest…I had every intention of going to the gym but I was not feeling great so I decided to stay home

Monday: home: upper body weight routine, 30 minute recumbent bike

Tuesday: home: upper body weight routine, 30 minute recumbent bike and a 2 mile walk doing laps at the mall

Wednesday: gym: 30 minute elliptical, rowing and some work with the TRX suspension trainer

Friday: rest

Saturday: gym: 45 minute elliptical, rowing, and more of the TRX suspension trainer…which I am learning to LOVE!!!

Not the best week ever but I fit it in and felt good when I had accomplished what I accomplished. My only hope is that next week is a bit calmer and more on the normal, routine side of life instead of complete chaos.

One thing I am thankful for this week is that it is finally February….which means, even though we are suppose to be getting hit hard with a major snowstorm this coming week…..Spring is on the way. No one could be any happier about this than me:-)

 

A Strange Week That Ended In An Awesome Way

This was a strange week for us here. My husband was missing in action all week and I feel every one of us noticed. Missing one person in the family makes a huge difference…from less laundry, to less food required at meal times, to no one to talk to in the evenings, and no one to wake up to in the morning. Like anything in life, some things are good and some are not so good…. in this situation we adapt, overcome, and move on.

So being I was on my own all week, I could do what I wanted when I wanted to do it. I returned to the gym, started Christmas shopping, enjoyed the exceptionally warm weather we are experiencing here in WI, and caught up on some reading. I made some great progress on the to do list for fall and made meals that would make my husband cringe.

Here is what my workouts consisted of this week.

Sunday: 3 mile walk

Monday: gym: 30 minute elliptical, stretching

Tuesday: 30 minutes on the recumbent bike, floor weights routine, stretching, 5 mile evening walk with a friend

Wednesday: 3 mile evening walk with a friend….this was suppose to be gym night but with temps so wonderful here yet, why would I go to the gym when I can spend it outside and not shiver in November…..so awesome!

Thursday: rest

Friday: floor weights routine

Saturday: off…..however, we did tons on walking while on our shopping trip.

Which brings me to the ending of our week. Saturday my husband and I took our annual shopping trip to a mall in Illinois. It’s our day to spend whatever we wish on just us….and this year was a blast. We found some awesome deals, ate at our favorite place, and enjoyed the day. And the best part is that we take a coach bus so we never have to worry about traffic, parking or being too tired to drive back home at the end of a long day. I can’t wait until next year.

My Journey Back To Exercising: Workouts Of The Week

I started working out again this week since I have been released from my surgeon to do what I feel is comfortable to do. However, I am not to do any abdominal exercises for another month. As I start this journey back to my normal workout schedule, I will share with you how this goes and the results.

This weeks workouts consisted of this:

Monday: walked numerous times in the airport during our 5 hour layover

Tuesday: arm weights, 2 mile mall walk(morning), 3 mile street walk(evening)

Wednesday: 30 minute recumbent bike, arm/back workout with weights, 1.5 mile morning walk

Thursday: Home:30 minute recumbent bike. arm/back workout with weights, leg workout, 1.5 mile morning walk

Gym: 20 minute elliptical

****Today was my first day back to the gym and let me just say…..it felt amazing! What a great feeling! Even though I cannot do much, I am able to spend some time on the elliptical and it gave me a high that only someone who workouts will understand.

Friday: arm and back and leg workout, 2 mile walk outside

After spending a week eating in restaurants while on vacation and 7 weeks prior to that sitting,sleeping, and recovering, I am so happy to get back some of what makes me feel good……exercise. I am sad at how much I lost in regards to stamina in the few weeks I have been fairly immobile although, I am excited to finally feel alive and somewhat normal.I know in time I will be back up to where I was prior to all this and can only hope it will be easier to achieve more since I always wanted to in the past but my body would not allow it.

Next week I return to work full time and expect that to suck much of my energy up during the day which means my daily nightly workouts could be effected. For now I will just have to listen to my body and rest if needed and workout if I have the energy after all my children are picked up. I am going to attempt to squeeze in half or all my afternoon workout into the wee morning hours before they all arrive to hopefully have a bit of rest time when they all nap in the afternoon. Which in turn, may help me achieve a nightly workout after work. That is the plan….whether it will work or not we shall see.

Have a great weekend…..if it’s nice in your area, get outside and enjoy some fresh air. We are planning to check out a favorite trail in our area and hope it’s not too wet and soggy to hike a few miles.

Wildlife and Workouts

I feel like life is finally back on track after all the holiday togetherness. No more days off for awhile now, no more parties to attend and sadly no more dirt trails to hike either.

After the first big snow storm of the year happened here a few days ago our trails have a nice layer of packed, slippery snow covering them. Which means my outside life has come to a screaming halt, to put it mildly. Although, after spending a few days wallowing in self pity, enough was enough and I had to bite the bullet and get outside. So my husband and I ventured to a nearby nature sanctuary on a sunny afternoon to have some fun. IMG_3242 IMG_3263 We walked around the sanctuary, fed the geese and ducks some corn, and just enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine. It was nice to get out for a bit and enjoy some time together.  IMG_3252

Besides our little venture out into the outdoors I have to be honest, that is about all I did outside all week. As sad as that is…it’s reality for me for the next few months. Which means it’s time to move on to a happier topic…..workouts:-)

Workouts this week have been CRAZY!!!!!!! Our gym is over flowing with new members with new years resolutions to achieve. With that being said, I was extremely happy to have come up with three new routines for weight lifting at home. This meant, at the very least if I could just get in my cardio at the gym I would be happy. Plus, we started walking at the mall….something we put off until it’s absolutely necessary. However, as bummed as I am about this, at least we made it until after the holidays so the crowds are now tolerable.

Here is what I did for workouts this week:

Saturday: gym: 30 minute elliptical, rowing and abs

Sunday: rest

Monday: home: weight lifting routine 30 minutes, recumbent bike 30 minutes

mall: 3 mile walk

Tuesday: home: weight lifting routine 30 minutes

Thursday: home: recumbent bike for 30 minutes

mall: 3 mile walk

Friday: home: weight lifting routine

My hope for the weekend is to make it to the gym both Saturday and Sunday. Maybe with a little luck it will not be too busy and I can get in a full workout.
