There is nothing like curling up under a warm blanket with a wonderful warm drink to take the chill out of winter. After reading many different recipes online and making some adjustments of my own…I think I finally found a drink that will bring me back to summertime in the middle of winter.
Here is my version of warm sunshine in a mug.
4 cups 100% apple juice
3 cups orange juice
1 cup water
2 TBSP. lemon juice
1/2 cup brown sugar
dash of cinnamon
In a kettle on the stove top mix all the ingredients together except the rum. Heat until the sugar is well dissolved and serve warm in a hearty mug.
Add a splash of rum if you really want to warm your insides.
With the temperatures here in the single digits, I thought this would be a perfect way to warm up.
A few years ago my husband came across this recipe that was concocted by Canadian back country skiers. We thought we would give it a try and ever since, we have been hooked. This is a wonderful warming drink after a winter activity.
For myself, just standing in the window of my home looking out at the snow falling makes this drink all the more delightful. Who says you actually have to go out and enjoy the snow to enjoy this treat?
Give it a try and let me know what you think.
2 TBSP sweetened condensed milk
1 oz. of rum (spiced and coconut are our favorite)
pinch of nutmeg
pinch of cinnamon
8 oz. of boiling water(more or less depending on your sweet tooth)
Add the milk, rum and spices to your cup and then add the boiling water. Mix and enjoy.
This could be the only good thing about winter that I can possibly think of….
