Let’s March Into April

Where did the month of March go? Wow, it flew by for me. However, I am very happy to be turning another page on my calendar tomorrow to welcome April.

We have a few fun things planned for April that I am anticipating. We will be getting back to geocaching and making our way further down the Ahnapee Trail. Easter plans are made and hopefully Mother Nature cooperates with us on this day. I am almost certain my husband and son will be hitting a river somewhere for some whitewater action with their kayaks. However, I will not be joining them, April is still just too cold for me. I would rather get all my spring cleaning done and hopefully get my kitchen painted before the very nice weather makes an appearance.

I have been working diligently on our summer plans and hope to have them finalized by the end of April and vacation day notifications sent out. This is one of the hardest things I do every year. My list of places to go is always longer than the summer lasts. And my husband says we can not be gone every single weekend. So, I do my best and try and leave one weekend a month that we spend at home. Generous of me, right?

The month of April is bound to be one of transition here, I would assume. Getting our house painted, the outdoor toys and patio tables all back out, cleaning the yuck from winter out of our vehicles and preparing for what comes next. Let’s all hope for some windy days with lots of sunshine to help melt what’s left of the white stuff and dry out our lawn.

What’s the thing you are anticipating most with the arrival of April?

Is Laughter The Best Medicine?

I often hear the statement, laughter is the best medicine. In my eyes the best medicine would be daylight. With the beginning of daylight savings time, I have officially survived another brutally cold Wisconsin winter.

We spent this last weekend at our favorite kayak/canoe convention with thousands of people just like us. Folks eager to hit the water and paddle. I will have a complete post on this Wednesday, but let me be the first to say, “I am so happy Spring is officially here in 10 days.”

With the change of the clocks this last weekend the first thing I want to do is go for a walk after dinner with my hubby in DAYLIGHT!!! No flashlights, no strobe blinkers and no reflecting vests to wear over our jackets. I know this may not sound exciting to most people, but to throw on my jacket and leave in seconds is wonderful.

The next thing I want to do is start seeing my neighbors outside in their yards and see kids ride past on their bikes. During the winter months, I swear we all hibernate like bears here in Wisconsin. Just walking to the curb to retrieve our mail is a chore. (Which is why I usually have my son retrieve ours)

My kiddos and I have been discussing Spring during circle time for weeks. We want to go to the park, ride our bikes, draw with chalk, play on the climbers out back (in time, it’s awful wet yet), blow bubbles, take a walk, etc. To say we are ready and excited would be an understatement. It’s like Christmas in March, so hard to wait for. That’s why, for me personally, the very best medicine is to let the sun shine longer.

Farewell February…. March…..Oh,How Long I have Waited For You

February 28…I know we still have a pretty thick snow cover outside, I am also sure we have more coming but I will gladly flip my calendar tomorrow to March with a smile on my face.

I can’t explain why, but winter for me is officially over in March. I know technically Spring does arrive in March, but that’s not it. In my eyes, I have made it through the worse, December, January and February. March is when the snow cover really starts to melt. By the end of the month I can usually see the edges of my lawn, daylight savings time begins again and we start planning some of our Spring/Summer outings.

We always have such a busy month, with my birthday at the beginning of the month, my brother’s birthday in the middle and my hubby’s at the end it’s like a month of celebrations.  We never have any big parties or anything but just a simple dinner is exciting when you’ve been enclosed inside for months due to one of the harshest winters we have had in a long time.

We will be attending our favorite kayaking convention real soon. We have a great Easter celebration planned for April traveling to some gorgeous waterfalls. We have started our list of hikes we want to take this summer. We have already planned a few camping trips, and can’t wait until the ice on area rivers melt. Just get me out, let me breathe fresh air, see people and enjoy nature.
