A Great Ending To Finish Off The Week….Minus One Snake

Strange week for me for sure. All the stars aligned and left me with Friday off….super cool in every way possible. So what did I do, well, I do what I always do, I went and had the best sweat session ever in the wee morning hours at the gym Friday morning. You all know I LOVE to work out in the morning and it leaves me with SO MUCH ENERGY the rest of the day it’s crazy. After this I came home, showered, and surprised my husband by freeing up Friday night by going grocery shopping during the day instead of the evening as we always do. I even made a trip to Aldi’s here in Green Bay. Someplace I really need to visit more often but just never do and it’s a shame. I could save so much money I know, but I dislike their hours and I can’t get everything I need there either.  So to normally shop two grocery stores would be a huge hassle for me.

My knee is back to almost 100% so it was back to full workouts all week. It was a bit of a crazy week with my husbands birthday one day which meant we were gone out one evening.  One day we had gorgeous spring like weather which we spent all day outside enjoying, doing yard work and taking walks. Which then left me completely exhausted come evening time. Just how I love feeling after a great day outdoors. So my workouts were all over the place but I still fit it what I could.

Sunday: gym: 30 minute elliptical and legs

Monday: home:1 mile walk with my kiddos, 30 minute recumbent bike, total body weights, 3 mile evening walk with my hubby

Tuesday: 2 mile walk and a lot of yard work

Wednesday: rest

Thursday: home: 30 minute recumbent bike, arms and shoulder weights, stretching

Friday: gym: 45 minute elliptical, TRX suspension trainer, and stretching

Saturday: gym: 30 minute elliptical and stretching

outdoors: 3.1 mile hike

Ending the week with an nice spring mud hike through an area waterfowl preserve near us. I love this place, they have so many gorgeous hiking trails and its minutes from our home.

The true sign for me that spring has arrived is these slithery creatures start making a comeback. Going into the hike I figured it was still way to early to see any….apparently I was wrong. We came across this one just off the trail….and he was not moving all that quickly since it was still cold so I actually calmed myself(and used my zoom) to capture my first ever living snake picture.

Work Before Play

We had the best weekend here in our area. It was sunny, warm, and just plain beautiful. I have been known to be energized by sunlight which drives my husband and son a bit bonkers at times, but this past weekend it paid off. We got so much done it’s crazy but so worth it. Every year around this time we all want to get out and have some fun after being locked up in our house all winter long. Although, I am a stickler to the rule of work before play. Which is exactly what we did this weekend.

Our chore list consisted of:

go to the laundry mat to wash all rugs and big comforters….done!

shred cheese to freeze….done!

swap snowblower and shovels for lawnmower and rakes/clean out the shed….done!

IMG_3675

wash curtains throughout the house, vacuum out both vehicles and get car washes….done, done, done!

place the order for wine slush to be prepared for summer…..done!

laminate workout diagrams to hang in my home gym for future use…..done!

Our Play List Was:

Ahhh, all the work for the day is complete. Now it was time to do something fun. Originally my husband and I were going to do something together but it was so nice outside that we decided to go separate directions for a few hours. He went fishing to one of his favorite fishing holes IMG_2671

and I went for a solo hike to one of my favorite trails.

I had been hoping all week that I would arrive at this trail and it would be dry enough to hike the entire distance. Thankfully when I arrived it was exactly what I was hoping to find…dry. It was also so alive with Spring, from eagles flying overhead, IMG_3701

to geese looking for open water,

and caterpillars coming to life again after a long winter.

It was so great to just be outside, feeling good, and breathing fresh air that I even sat on the bench near the end of the trail for awhile and just listened to all the life around me.

It was quite the weekend. We accomplished so much, each had our own bit of fun, and even found time to relax and enjoy life before another work week begins.

What is your favorite thing to do when Spring weather comes?

Do you work before play or play and then work?

Natural Red….It’s Been A Year Already

I can’t believe it’s been a year since I wrote my first post for Natural Red.

I remember struggling with the decision to even start a blog for so many reasons. Would I have enough to write about? Would people read what I have to write about? Would I have time? And the biggest question in my mind was, could I inspire people to try new things and just get out and enjoy life?

I am happy to say that the answer is yes to every one of those questions. I do have plenty I want to write about, however putting it all into words is not always easy. I have some wonderful readers that return time and time again, which I appreciate sincerely. Making time is sometimes a challenge but so far I am managing to keep a fairly regular schedule of postings. And in regards to inspiring people to enjoy life, I can only hope.

I have learned so much this past year about what my readers like and want to read. My highest stats happen on recipe days, geocaching posts, and fitness workouts. Which honestly surprises me. I enjoy your interaction, reading your comments and answering any questions that I receive from my readers.

I did have a big fear that being a blogger not linked to any other social media would never really work out. I never imagined I would have followers, comments or emails from people that have specific questions. I was so wrong. I think this may be the reason that I have sincere followers and not followers making a business proposition every time I turn around. For this simple fact, I am very thankful. I have met some really great people blogging and appreciate all the great feedback I get from all of you.

I am excited to say that I plan to continue blogging. I would be open to any suggestions or requests for upcoming posts. Feel free to email me (address on my “contact” page) or leave a comment in regards to anything you see that you would like more information about.

Also, if you have any suggestions of somewhere you think we would like to explore, please let me know. We are always looking for new and beautiful places to kayak, hike and travel to.

I am looking forward to sharing next years adventures with all of you and hope to inspire you all to enjoy the journey of life. Thank you all so much for following Natural Red and like always, I hope you enjoy the ride.
