The Rough Draft In Our Book Of Life Is Beginning

The rough draft in our book of life has begun and when I say rough I mean rough! Clearly, as you look back, the last time I blogged there was still snow on the ground. That was 10 days ago. Wow, where does time go?

OK, so without wanted to jinx anything here, I want to fill you in a bit on where we are since I get lots of support from friends and family that read here on the blog. I will admit, not proudly by any means but it is what it is…..here goes…..we have not eaten at our dinner table in well over 9 days!!!!! For this I am ashamed. Although, I have managed to precook meals in the morning hours to enjoy when we all do finally arrive home to enjoy them where ever this shall be in our home. I mentioned in the last post we have been apartment hunting with our son. Everyone…this has been SCARY!!!! Coming from a mom who does not always agree with her son…..we have been seeing eye to eye on most things lately and for this I am so thankful. Dad on the other hand is much more verbal and will tell him straight up when he don’t like something. I am more of a live and learn type of mom….however, unless it is just something I cannot look past and must give my input. Anyhow, here’s where we are with this….his one and only application for a place has been submitted and now we wait and pray. I am going with the hope of, if its meant to be it will be. Time will tell.

In between all the evening showings we had scheduled we took weekends and days to get other stuff done. That is when the tools for the other chores did not break while trying to get things accomplished. Frustrating I tell you….simply frustrating!

I have been searching high and low for furniture and home items for our son in his preparation to move out of our family home and this too has been a battle. Garage sales here are mostly on Thursday and Friday and by Saturday if they are still happening all the good items have been scarfed up already. And Saturday is the only day I have to garage sale since I work. Although, we have lucked out on a few items and dad is lending a hand to fix, repair, and create quite the unique DIY home decor for when the big move finally happens.

Also, with a well deserved needed break from daily life we escaped for our first camping…ok really it was glamping since technically we slept in cabins and not tents….trip of the year.

We were joined by my brother, sister in law, and our nephew on this trip for the first time. It was fun…we hiked the entire bluff lake loop at Devil’s Lake State Park here in Baraboo, WI and enjoyed the great outdoors.

We even dusted off the discs for disc golf while we were here and played a few rounds. When its your first time out for the season we found that things are a bit rusty and you often end up searching out your disc in the trees.

It was a nice break from our home life chaos. We had a great time, I was sore from the first big hike of the year until Tuesday and I don’t think any of us were ready to wake up and leave Sunday morning. Especially their pup, Coconut, who simply was exhausted by all the outdoor activity from the day. What a cutie….

For now I will leave you here….but you can bet this shall be continued eventually.

First Camping Trip of 2016

Hello, Hello…. how was your weekend?

Mine was fabulous!!!!!!!!!!

We (actually I) decided it would be a great weekend to go camping. Our son was scheduled to work both jobs and my husband and I decided why stay home…..so we went camping. When my husband arrived home from work Friday afternoon, I was packed and ready to go.

IMG_3966

We arrived just before sunset and had almost everything up and ready by the time darkness set in.

IMG_3968

We went to bed quite early since my husband was suffering from jet lag after traveling this week and we had both put in a full day of work. Plus, the plans for Saturday were to visit my favorite WI park and do some hiking. Our goal was the complete the loop of both bluffs at Devil’s Lake State Park….which is approx 6.5 miles.

We woke Saturday morning after a night thunder, lightening and big rain, that thankfully, our tent held up to perfectly. On the menu for breakfast was pancakes, fruit, and coffee.

IMG_3976

Then we headed to the park a few miles away. Since we had been here many, many times before we knew exactly where we were headed. My only hope is that I could manage the entire loop, which would be my longest hike since my surgery.

and at the top of another bluff

here are sights we saw in between the two bluffs

We shared lunch in the middle of the two bluffs over looking the lake.

IMG_4017

And completed the entire loop in a little more than four hours. Success!!!

After hiking we headed back for some relaxation at camp before playing a game of disc golf together on the campground property.

IMG_4043

Then prepared dinner….chicken alfredo with broccoli.

IMG_4047

IMG_4054

After that is was a few games of cards, some time by the campfire and bedtime after a long and very successful day.

IMG_4036

We had a wonderful time hiking at Devil’s Lake State Park and camping at a near by campground that has quickly become our favorite in that area. It ended up being a great place to unplug, relax, and unwind from a long busy week.

IMG_3980

I arrived home and was happy to see my son planning to prepare dinner for Mother’s Day. How nice is that…….

Do you enjoy camping?

Where is your favorite place to camp?

Name one plus and one minus to camping. (mine would be: plus= no electronics, minus=bugs)

National Take A Hike Day Is Today

Today is National Take A Hike Day.

If you are an avid hiker like myself, you already know the feeling of being in the woods, back on a trail or high above on a bluff or mountain top and the rush it brings to just be at peace with life.

stopped3

If you are not a hiker and have always wanted to experience this feeling, use today as the day to start this journey. It’s amazing to be able to just unplug and leave everything behind for a few hours and become one with the trail.

Go alone, introduce your children to hiking or use this time as couple time. You will find any of these options rewarding and a perfect way to reset.

And remember, if you decided to join the 52 Hike Challenge along with my husband and I, make sure you log whatever trail you decide to hike today.

Tagging Along For The Day

Recently, our son and a friend casually mentioned that they were considering a hiking trip to my favorite WI park which quickly made me think fast. I knew they were both college students and, let’s face it, always tight on money, so if we offered to drive and supply lunch they may let us tag along for the day. So, the offer was made and by the next morning excepted…..which made this mom very happy.

I wish we lived closer to this area because this would be where I would spend a great majority of my time, hiking in Devil’s Lake State Park. This park literally has everything we love, well almost, it does not have whitewater rapids. It does have a lake for standup paddling, fishing, and swimming. It has bluffs to climb and hiking trails that are well marked and fun to hike. And the view is as good as it gets in Wisconsin.

IMG_2767

Since both our son and his friend are photography students, they each had their backpacks loaded with camera equipment, which meant I had the pleasure of trying out my new Gregory backpack. (Which I LOVE) My husband had his backpack which started out empty since we began hiking when it was pretty chilly. As the temperature quickly rose, we started peeling layers off half way up the bluff and loading it into his backpack.

IMG_2763

Our new hiking companion had never been here before, much less hiking anywhere for that matter. They have been doing little bits and pieces around home but this was by far the biggest hike he had been on. If only he could have seen his facial expression upon walking up to the trail head, it was photo worthy in my opinion. I hopefully put his mind at ease by reminding him that slow and steady is the key to success when hiking up cliffs/bluffs and that when he needed to stop and “smell the roses,” or catch his breath, to  do just that. We have done this hike a hundred times, so we knew exactly what was ahead. For him, this was truly a new adventure which we were hoping to make a big success.

IMG_2771

By the time we reached the top everyone was warmed up and ready to explore. IMG_2775  IMG_2790

IMG_2780

Then it was time for a little break. We found a sunny area and all shared a snack.

IMG_2791

After numerous pictures were taken it was time to head back down. It was not a long distance hike by any means, but it was successful. Anytime we can share our love of the trail with someone new is a success in my eyes.

IMG_2793

Then it was picnic time and we decided since we were not sure until last minute if we would actually be able to join them, that freeze dried meals would be easiest and fun for this newbie hiker to experience.

IMG_2799

It ended up being a wonderful day of hiking and getting to know a new friend a little more. We returned to 80 degree weather at home and even managed to get a little yard work done before the sun set.

Weekend Snapshots: Autumn Adventures

What a fabulous weekend we had. The sun was shining and the temps were comfortable enough to have fun outside with little more than a light jacket on. Thankfully, we had a weekend full of outdoor plans to fill the daylight hours.

Fox Hill RV Park and Campground- Baraboo, WI

Are you looking for a great family friendly place to camp in Wisconsin? If so, I would highly recommend you make your way to Baraboo, WI and camp at Fox Hill RV Park and Campground.

We have camped here three times now and have been very impressed each and every time. You have tent sites, RV sites, and cabins to choose from. All very reasonably priced and the grounds are very clean. We have always stayed in what they consider their rustic cabins.

Inside

IMG_0890

They have a very nice, large play area for children located right in the middle of all the sites. So whether you have an RV, tent or a cabin, your children don’t have far to go to have a good time.

For the bigger kids they can rent and ride around on these fine looking scooters.

The bathroom house is also located in the middle of the park.

IMG_0896

Take it from a clean freak, these bathrooms have been so clean every time we have visited that even I am amazed.

IMG_0907

And the best part is if it’s too hot or the inside showers are full you can always opt for an outdoor shower.

This place has so much to offer besides being very close to so many area attractions. You have Devil’s Lake State Park a few miles away, the WI Dells area and all their attractions, a casino close by and so much more. Even if you never left the campground you would still find so much to do as a family.

More outdoor activities right on the premises

And don’t forget they have a nice pool for the summer season, a great little gift shop/general store, and the nicest staff I have ever met. They even deliver wood bundles right to your campsite.

If your thinking about visiting the area of Baraboo,WI give them a call. I am sure you will have a very nice time staying with them.
