August Already??? How Can That Be?

Where has summer gone? It’s August already I am not ready for summer to be almost over! Although, our August calendar is full and September is filling up quickly so maybe the best of summer is yet to come.

Alright, I know its been a while but life got a bit hectic once again. I flew solo this past week since my husband was once again on the road for work. Which meant we did all we could to get everything done that needed to be done and also spend a day together before he left. We decided to float the river once again since its relaxing and we both needed a few hours to relax.

It was a floating trip that paid off since he found a very nice fishing lure stuck in the bottom of the river. IMG_1398

Then the week happened and it was busy! Hence why there was no postings last week. I simply did not have time to sit and type.

Friday then rolled around and as he was on his way home making his way through airports, I was packing and preparing for our weekend. We had a day planned at a friends cabin that was sure to include water, sun, and campfires! I threw together a quick broccoli salad and grabbed the beach towels and sunscreen. IMG_1425

We left a bit early since I had my heart set on stopping at the farmers market near where we were headed. I bought a bunch of fresh veggies for the week ahead.

We then arrived at the cabin to find sunshine and warmth. This is not always the case here since it’s often cooler by the lake, but I was happy today was not one of those days. We boated, stopped at the beach, and prepared dinner on the open fire.

It was a great day. Weather was perfect, company was fun, and the water was warm. What more could we ask for?

Sunday was then catch up on chores day. We typically have one day of play and one day of work every weekend. I prepared baby food, veggie dip, and pre chopped veggies for the week ahead. My husband did oil changes and other things on his “Honey Do” list like normal. This week is jam packed with stuff. Our annual date event we go to is this week, we also have plans to visit somewhere we have never been. And believe me, we have been almost everywhere in WI….and surrounding states. So I am excited to explore more of what our area has to offer. Hopefully the weather cooperates and I will have something fun to share with you all real soon.

Have a great week!

The Rough Draft In Our Book Of Life Is Beginning

The rough draft in our book of life has begun and when I say rough I mean rough! Clearly, as you look back, the last time I blogged there was still snow on the ground. That was 10 days ago. Wow, where does time go?

OK, so without wanted to jinx anything here, I want to fill you in a bit on where we are since I get lots of support from friends and family that read here on the blog. I will admit, not proudly by any means but it is what it is… goes…..we have not eaten at our dinner table in well over 9 days!!!!! For this I am ashamed. Although, I have managed to precook meals in the morning hours to enjoy when we all do finally arrive home to enjoy them where ever this shall be in our home. I mentioned in the last post we have been apartment hunting with our son. Everyone…this has been SCARY!!!! Coming from a mom who does not always agree with her son…..we have been seeing eye to eye on most things lately and for this I am so thankful. Dad on the other hand is much more verbal and will tell him straight up when he don’t like something. I am more of a live and learn type of mom….however, unless it is just something I cannot look past and must give my input. Anyhow, here’s where we are with this….his one and only application for a place has been submitted and now we wait and pray. I am going with the hope of, if its meant to be it will be. Time will tell.

In between all the evening showings we had scheduled we took weekends and days to get other stuff done. That is when the tools for the other chores did not break while trying to get things accomplished. Frustrating I tell you….simply frustrating!

I have been searching high and low for furniture and home items for our son in his preparation to move out of our family home and this too has been a battle. Garage sales here are mostly on Thursday and Friday and by Saturday if they are still happening all the good items have been scarfed up already. And Saturday is the only day I have to garage sale since I work. Although, we have lucked out on a few items and dad is lending a hand to fix, repair, and create quite the unique DIY home decor for when the big move finally happens.

Also, with a well deserved needed break from daily life we escaped for our first camping…ok really it was glamping since technically we slept in cabins and not tents….trip of the year.

We were joined by my brother, sister in law, and our nephew on this trip for the first time. It was fun…we hiked the entire bluff lake loop at Devil’s Lake State Park here in Baraboo, WI and enjoyed the great outdoors.

We even dusted off the discs for disc golf while we were here and played a few rounds. When its your first time out for the season we found that things are a bit rusty and you often end up searching out your disc in the trees.

It was a nice break from our home life chaos. We had a great time, I was sore from the first big hike of the year until Tuesday and I don’t think any of us were ready to wake up and leave Sunday morning. Especially their pup, Coconut, who simply was exhausted by all the outdoor activity from the day. What a cutie….

For now I will leave you here….but you can bet this shall be continued eventually.

What I Am Loving Lately….

With the season changing there are many things that are making a comeback into my life. And a few things that are also new that I would like to share with you all.

Here are a few…

Iced latte’s: yum, yum, yum! I think I would drink coffee chilled all year long if I didnt love the warmth of holding the hot cup in the early mornings during the winter months. So summer time is when I really enjoy my iced coffee.

Rainbow of colors in the yard again: We are finally outside on a daily basis playing and enjoying the fun colorful toys we have not seen in months. Another winter stuck inside officially survived by us all.

Tribe Hummus: During the week I get very little peace and quiet which is why I truly love to lay everyone down for nap and step out on the porch for an afternoon snack. My go to snack lately has been this hummus in the cucumber tzatziki flavor. It takes complete self control not to eat the entire container by myself.

My dream play house: I know what your thinking, a dream play house! Let me explain. Do you know how great it would be for our play area to be separated from my families living space in our home. Having an in home daycare is not all rainbows and butterflies. I often (always) feel like I NEVER LEAVE WORK. Which is one of the reason I am very rarely home on weekends since its the only time I feel like I get to leave my “office”. Which is why I fell in LOVE with this when we were walking one day on a recreational trail nearby. I think this would be PERFECT. Ahhhhh, pipe dreams….they are wonderful.

Argan Oil from Morocco: I am not a fashion or beauty expert by any means but lately I have been searching for something to help tame my hair frizz. Since surgery, back in January, my hair and skin have been so different. I am thinking its hormone related but gosh nothing seems to tame the frizz. Until, I came across this product. It’s in a small amount so if it did not work I would not have ANOTHER bottle of useless product and its was fairly cheap at $2.99 a packet. I am able to get three uses out of one packet for my hair length and let me tell you… smells wonderful. Like the tropics, the only thing missing is the drink on the beach with an umbrella in it. And it tamed my frizz in one use….which is awesome. I am sold and have already bought more.

Cacala Turkish towels: I bought these a few months ago and finally had a chance to use them while camping recently. Apparently, they were suppose to absorb water remarkably and dry in a very short amount of time. Plus, they are light weight and fold so much smaller than a bath towel. Well, after giving ours a try, I can attest to all these things. We used both of ours camping for showers and dried them on a clothesline in approximately 30 minutes or less both times. They are huge and do really absorb water nicely. I can’t wait to use them at the beach this summer.

Roasted turkey sausages: While sitting near the campfire one evening my husband got this bright idea to try roasting one of our turkey sausages that we often enjoy on the trail. I was willing to give it a try but I was not quite sold on the idea until after trying them. They were spectacular. I would even say they were better than last years invention of roasted marshmallows stuffed with bacon bits(alcohol was involved in this creation). If your ever in the mood for a mini hotdog I would gladly suggest giving this a try.

That should do it for the things I am loving lately.

Do you want to share anything your enjoying…..comment and tell us all.
