6 Weeks Ago We Had A Major Snowstorm…..Today We Broke Heat Records

I heard on the news this morning that 6 weeks ago we were digging out from our major record breaking snowstorm of 20+ inches of snow. Here was my husband shoveling off our roof to hopefully prevent it from collapsing.

Fast forward to this weekend and we once again broke records but not with snow depth….this time with heat! Whew, it was hot….and for me to admit it was hot, you know it was HOT!!!! However, unlike that snowstorm where it kept me inside without any thoughts of venturing out, the heat wave we had this weekend did just the opposite. I pressed pause on the life calendar and enjoyed each day out and about doing what we love to do in the great outdoors.

First, we played a round of disc golf at one of WI most challenging disc golf courses. It is located in Manitowoc, WI right on the lakeshore so visiting the beach while we played was quite convenient.

The next day we hiked one of my favorite trails located near Oshkosh, WI called Terrell’s Island. (more info on this trail is located on the hiking trails page)

I love this trail since wildlife can always be seen at any time of year.

Not once have I visited without seeing at least one snake…..today I got a bonus with the one snake seen whom was already dead and half eaten by something. This is just the way I prefer to see these creatures.

This trail literally weaves through the water the entire 3.8 miles and offers much to see. I would highly recommend it for anyone looking to escape the heat. There is no sun protection so remember sunscreen!!

The remainder of the weekend we spent together doing odds and ends, like shopping, cutting the lawn, laundry, etc.. I needed to throw together more bean burgers since we had eaten the last batch.

recipes here and here (minus the spinach since I forgot to buy some)

I also worked on organizing the weeks events coming up since its a shortened week with the holiday Monday and I also have a day off to prepare for our sons moving date. It’s almost here and I do believe we are as ready as we can be at this point. It’s been a long haul for sure since finding a reasonable apartment that was not in a terrible neighborhood was the hardest part. Although, we did it and it’s happening soon.

So you may wonder what is next for my husband and I. Well, I hope to change a few things. I want to go more veggie based in our meals by deleting meat at least half the time instead of only twice a week like now. We will never remove meat completely but I know we could easily do half and half. I also am working on turning our sons room into our office area. This could take some time but eventually I hope to be done by July. Right now, those are the only “for sure” items on the list. I am tossing around a few more ideas in my head, but if your husband is anything like mine, you have to bring these up slowly and not overwhelm them to quickly.HAHA! So, for the time being, I am just going to try and make it through the next week or two. I hope to begin blogging regularly again in regards to our meal plans which I know you all ask for me to continue. And I will for sure share our summer adventures here as we do them. I just need life to slow back down and offer me time to breathe.

Currently….

Watching: The new season of Scorpion. My husband got me hooked on this program and I can even stay awake through the entire hour.

Reading: Hikertrash: Life on the Pacific Crest Trail by Erin Miller   I highly recommend it if your looking for a few laughs and love hiking. I can put myself in her shoes many, many times.

Anticipating: Another glamping trip(glamorous camping) we have planned. Take a look at our last glamping trip

Eating: We have been enjoying our first ever farm fresh eggs. I am a complete city girl, born and raised. (Not entirely proud of it though) When my husband said he could get farm fresh eggs from a fellow co worker I was excited to give these a try. I have heard they are better but who knew…..I do now.

Researching: The different snake boots and/or snake gators that are out on the market. Yes, I believe I may need these for our next vacation. My only hope is that I end up purchasing them and they become a complete waste of money when we DON’T cross paths with a snake. This would be the very best scenario there could be.

Struggling With: Lately, workouts have been a battle. I am tired of dealing with a jam packed gym during the week, I am bored walking our area mall, and my afternoon workout is a hit or miss depending on my two newborns sleep schedules right now. I think I just need Spring to arrive, the snow to melt ,and to get outside and breathe some fresh air. All in good time:)

Worried About: A close friend’s health. We are all praying for good results.

Making Me Smile: The three year old I take care of everyday is as excited as I am about making another trip to the beach when the snow melts. She brings this topic up almost daily which brings a smile to my face.

Need: A date night with my hubby.

Thinking About: I have been debating taking a NOLS Wilderness First Aid Certification class.

Let’s Reminisce / Get Up and Move Update Week 3

I have made it very clear that the months of winter are very long for me. So I thought we would reminisce together. If you miss the sunny skies of summer, sunscreen, wet beach towels, tailgate meals, dirt covered hiking trails and just about anything else that pertains to summer, please enjoy these pics with me.

A winter hike today

The way we would rather see our kayaks. WET!!!

Oh, if only I could make our rivers flow and warm up sooner…..

And last but not least, the lighthouse we aim for when fishing on the big lake in the summer months. This lighthouse is my savior because that means we are almost to the bathrooms after HOURS of fishing.

Today it looks a little frosty with splattered lake water frozen to the side of it.

And here is a look at it in the summer months with no ice crystals nearby.

Gosh, do I miss summer. I just keep thinking, everyday brings me a little closer to the time of year I love.

Enough reminiscing, time to move on…

Now for the GET UP AND MOVE UPDATE for week three.

Monday 1/13: 30 minutes on the arc trainer, 15 minutes of cycling and weight training (all at the gym)

Tuesday 1/14: 30 minutes cycling, and 30 minutes of floor exercises at home, 45 minute yoga dvd

Wednesday 1/15: 30 minutes of cycling(at home), 30 minutes on the arc trainer, weight lifting, 15 minutes of cycling (at the gym)

Thursday 1/16: 3 mile walk with my hubby

Friday 1/17: 30 minutes cycling and 30 minute stability ball workout with hand weights (at home)

Saturday 1/18: 30 minutes on the arc trainer, 15 minutes cycling and weight lifting (all at the gym)

Sunday 1/19: 30 minutes on the arc trainer, 20 minutes cycling and weight lifting (all at the gym)

This week has been amazing. Great workouts even though we arrived at the gym a few times this week and cars were parked on the street due to the lot being full. The joys of New Year’s resolutions….it will slowly clear out in the upcoming weeks, I am sure. At least the gym has plenty of equipment, which means we did not have any trouble getting in what we needed to in a reasonable amount of time.

So how are you all doing on the challenge? Are you getting in 30 minutes? Are you feeling more energized? Are you sleeping better? I can attest from what my husband has seen since he has started his new routine, that he is feeling much better all the way around. He has so much more energy. His first two arc trainer sessions were killers but he is now up to 30 minutes at one time at a very good level and his heart rate is perfect;) Which makes his wife (me) very happy. I hope you are all seeing the same successful outcome that he has seen.

For me, well, the 30 minutes is really not much of a challenge. I normally workout a lot and I know this. My workouts are more for happiness than exercise. Which may sound odd, but exercise just really makes me happy. With my birthday coming up here in a few months I am just so grateful I am as active as I am at this age. It’s sort of odd to think what I was like when I was 25 because I did not do much at all when I was younger. Now, there are days where I just have to say enough is enough and just stop moving for the day.
