I Am Not Ready For It To Be August

August 1st already….. where did two months of summer go????? I am just not ready for it to be almost over. We have had so much fun, there is still so much to do, and well, I am just simply not ready.

This weekend I informed my husband and son that mom needed a water break. We have spent the last two months every weekend doing some type of water activity. However, with all that fun comes a lot of work the day after. Beach towels need washing, gear needs enzyme treating, watercraft need to be restored stored and so on.

In all honesty, I really got the hiking groove back after spending a week on the North Shore of Minnesota. Hiking gives me a certain type of peace and reset that no other activity can give me. Although, my standup paddle board comes in a very close second, hiking is by far my number one sport. So this weekend my husband and I did everything on dry land/trail.

First, we visited my favorite disc golf course in Kaukauna, WI. Grignon Park is like hiking while disc golfing. Of course its my favorite for this simple reason. IMG_4984

It has some big hills to climb and half the course is thickly wooded which offers solitude and a challenge when disc golfing.

And no course would be fun without a water/mud hazard. IMG_4989

Then, later in the day, I finally talked him into taking me hiking on a trail I have been wanting to hike for a few years now. I will do a complete write up of this trail after we explore a bit more in upcoming weeks but for now let me say, it’s close to home and VERY PEACEFUL. Here are a few pictures from our 4.5 mile hike.

It ended up to be a great way to bid farewell to July 2016. As August rolls around we have many more adventures on the calendar. And as you can imagine, I will savor every single moment of warmth and sunshine this next month cause I know what’s right around the corner. I dread it so much so that I am not even going to type that four letter word that starts with “S”

What are you looking forward to in the month of August?

What is your favorite season and why?

August Goals

August brings me such mixed emotions that I often feel a little overwhelmed. Of course I have a list of goals that I hope to achieve during the month but at the same time, I feel as if I need to pack even more into this month than June and July due to the fact that summer is almost over. I do love fall, however, I do not look forward to what comes after that….WINTER! Just typing that word makes me cringe so let’s get to the list for August. My August goals are:

1. Accomplish our first “hike in” camping trip

2. Make a trip to our nearest Trader Joe’s (2 hrs away)

3. Spend as much time on our rivers and lakes as possible before they freeze up again:(

4. Date Night….yes, I know I had this last month, but maybe, just maybe we will find the time this month

5. Plan a hiking trip with my brother and his family

6. Plan a Lake Michigan fishing trip

Do you notice there are no chores or home improvement projects on my list? I refuse to waste one second of August doing something I can do the months of Nov-March when I hibernate in my home.

Do you have big plans for the end of summer?

The Arrival of Autumn…

Autumn has officially arrived.

I truly have mixed feelings about this. Some things about Autumn I love and some things I just don’t care for.

I love Autumn because the leaves start to fall which means the kiddos and I can rake piles and jump in them, which is always fun.

We typically are done kayaking for many months to come, which is not so great.

I will need to put away my patio chairs and bid goodbye to my beloved front porch for the next few months, which is quite depressing for me personally. It’s like my personal place to think.

I love pumpkin and anything made with pumpkin, which are in abundance at this time of year.

It is the absolute best time to hike in our area, bugs are gone and you don’t overheat and dehydrate like in the middle of August.

Two major holidays are right around the corner, and I love planning what to prepare for these. Although, on the flip side, holiday shopping starts and I really dislike crowds so this is not always fun. (I always plan to shop during the Packer’s games, stores are pretty empty at this time)

This is the time of year where soups come back into rotation for meal time at our house. Personally, I could live on soup year round, but my husband would starve before he would eat soup when it’s 85 outside.

I bid farewell to cold lattes and switch back to a nice hot cup of coffee. I have to have something to look forward to to get myself up and going in the morning. Otherwise I may just live in my warm bed for the next 6 months until Spring arrives.

It will be months till we get fresh veggies again, which is devastating to a sprout cruncher like myself:(

And the final thing about Autumn I just love is that I have a few more weeks to enjoy the last of the green grass and wild flowers. I dread every year what comes next, those frosty flakes that fall from the sky and accumulate for weeks and cover everything green that I can see.
