Loving Lately….

It’s been awhile since I wrote about what I am loving lately. So I figured, there is no better time than today to share a few things….

Limited Edition Cranberry English Muffins: I love when the fall flavors arrive….they warm my heart and my stomach. If you have not given these a try…..I highly recommend them.

GoStak by Blender Bottle: I stumbled across one of these while hiking in Arizona. A fellow hiker was opening up what looked to be a water bottle but when I got a bit closer I saw it was a bunch of little bottles all connected nicely. Well, you know me, I immediately researched this the second I had the opportunity and found it. I ordered one without much thought, since I love organization…..and the one place I really like organization is in my backpack. From snacks, ear buds, medications, small jewelry…..almost anything can be kept securely in this storage container that is no larger than a water bottle. They can be used separately, together, or you can even add to the length buy purchasing more containers of a preferred size. I have many ideas for mine.

This unseasonably warm weather we have been having: For a person that struggles through winter, I have no complaints about fall so far. I am still out hiking every weekend, and have even been able to wear shorts a few hours here and there. How fabulous is that and it’s mid November…….so awesome!!!

Zucchini Bread: I have been making ooodles and ooodles of zucchini bread. These loaves never last long in my house. It’s the best recipe ever.

Silicone Ring: This is a tough one to explain but here it goes. My husband and I have been married for over 23 years now and I knew from day one that he would rarely be able to wear his wedding ring because of the job he had for over 17 years. And then he changed jobs a few years back and I thought, maybe he could wear it a bit more now, but this was also an issue in his new profession. And then about two years ago….he changed jobs again and once again I thought….maybe he could wear it now. And again, he just did not feel comfortable risking it. Now I know in my heart that a ring does not MAKE HIM MARRIED….but I want him to have a ring on that finger in the worst way. So while hiking, once again, in a region that does so much more active activities than we do here in WI, I noticed many men had on silicone rings. So, as I always do, I researched a bit and found what I was looking for. A safe ring, that will break if it gets caught on anything, that is inexpensive in case he looses it, and most important…..it will not conduct electricity to put him at danger in his job. They are hypo allergenic, lightweight, and made from high performance silicone and are durable. They are made for an active lifestyle which we have. He can wear it rock scrambling while on vacations, he can wear it at work, he can wear it painting, swimming, or camping. He can wear it ALL THE TIME! I can’t wait to give it to him!!!

Are you loving anything you want to share with me? Go ahead…I’d love to hear about it.

Life Lately….

It’s been a bit crazy here lately. Although, I could not be happier with this craziness. It’s clearly summer time in full swing here in our house and I have been enjoying many of my favorite things along with working on many other projects when there is free time to be had.

Our annual date night (yes, I did say annual…sadly) is coming up and I recently picked up the tickets. I am so excited….I love this event. And this year my brother is joining us so it shall be fun for sure.IMG_4532

I find myself packing a beach bag every single weekend.

I have been working hard at planning and gathering our vacation things. I love vacation but the planning part is the real challenge for me. My goal is not to forget anything and then to go and hopefully accomplish everything on the list that I have planned.

I started taking water aerobics at a city pool. I use to love water aerobics but normally took a class in winter. Then the older I got the more I dreaded getting out and stepping outside with wet hair into the snow and ice of winter. So I stopped taking winter classes. Maybe I will enjoy summer classes more. We shall see.

Meeting once a month with my brother for dinner out together. We have been doing this now a few months and I am loving it. We live in the same city and maybe see each other 2-3 times a year because, well, life is just so busy. So I thought the least we could do is try for once a month…. just him and I… and so far its been working out great.

I am truly enjoying the summer heat, summer sun, and summer activities. Before I know it it will be over and life will slow down drastically. So right now I am rolling with it and enjoying every second.

How To Keep Motivated Exercising

Motivation….don’t we all wish we had more at times? I am sure there are many, many of you that have recently made the pledge to start exercising. Now you just have to figure out how to keep yourself motivated to keep exercising. Which is exactly what we are talking about today.

Despite the fact that endorphins will take over your body after exercise and make you feel like you have the energy of a three year old, there may be times when a little extra push may be needed. So here are a few motivational helpers to keep you moving.

#1 Everyone needs a goal: don’t set it too big, this is important. You want to be able to reach that goal. You can always set another after this one.

#2 Reward yourself: once you reach that goal you have set, reward yourself with something special. New workout outfit, new headband, new shoes, ice cream cone, dinner out with someone special, anything that means something to you. It can be something big or small, as long as it’s something special for you. IMG_1242

#3 Schedule it: Seriously this is no laughing matter. So many of us say we don’t have time to exercise or will find any excuse to skip it because of $%^&! This cannot happen and if it needs to happen it better be an emergency. Just like you pick your kids up from school everyday, brush your teeth everyday, or feed your pet everyday, you must schedule this segment of time into your schedule everyday.

#4 Make an appointment: If you can’t hold up your end of the bargain by scheduling it and doing it, then your other option would be to pay for an appointment to exercise. Either hire a trainer, join a gym, or even enroll in a group class. This way if you do not show up, you are literally throwing money out the window.

#5 Variety: Don’t get stuck in a rut with the same routine over and over again. This could bore you to death and make it easier to just say skip it. Whether you are at home or at a gym change up your routine. IMG_3039

#6 Think fun: No one says you need to workout indoors. Bring your yoga mat to a park, run/walk/hike a nearby trail, swim laps in a lake, snowshoe, ice skate etc.  Depending on what you enjoy and your activity level, bring your workout outside and enjoy the fresh air. IMG_5054

#7 Support: Team up with a friend or your spouse and support each other. If you have set dates to work out together and you feel like cancelling, that obligation to support your friend/spouse may be enough to get you up and moving.  IMG_2917

These are a few things that keep me motivated on a daily basis. Yes, we will all feel like some days are better than others but as long as the attempt is made and something is done in the way of exercise it’s a success. Some is better than nothing at all.
